Why Canberra Veterinary Dermatology ?

We love helping pets with all types of skin, ear, nail, coat and allergy conditions feel better.

We offer personalized, attentive care that goes beyond general practice, taking the time to understand your pet's individual needs.

We aim to make a firm diagnosis of the underlying problem and then make a treatment plan that is effective, backed by science and that suits you and your pet. Our treatment plans are designed to make a positive difference to the quality of life for each and every one of the itchy, sore, bald and crusty pets that we see, as well as their owners.

If you cannot visit us in Canberra, we can collaborate with your local veterinarian via teleconsultation to advise on diagnostic testing and possible treatment options. We also offer telemedicine appointments for existing clients so that you can get the advice you need even if you can’t make it into the clinic.

Dr. Gillian Lynch

Gill is the skin vet at Canberra Veterinary Dermatology.

I look forward to meeting you and your pet, and working together to help them feel more comfortable in their skin!

I moved to Canberra after completing my Bachelor in Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney in 1999. Over the years I've worked at several small animal veterinary clinics both in Canberra and abroad, building a comprehensive foundation in companion animal care.

My passion has always been small animal medicine, which led me to complete a Masters of Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Practice in 2017. I then pursued my longstanding interest in dermatology through several years of further study via the University of Liverpool in the UK.

In 2022, I passed Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons examinations and was awarded a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Veterinary Dermatology). While this doesn't make me a specialist dermatologist, it recognizes my advanced expertise in diagnosing and treating the full spectrum of dermatological conditions affecting pets.

Veterinary dermatology is a rapidly evolving field, and I stay current with the latest research and therapies through regular continuing professional development, including recent attendance at World and European Veterinary Dermatology Congresses.

I am a member of the Australian Veterinary Association and The European Society of Veterinary Dermatology.

Ellie the Labrador

Ellie is Dr Gill’s Labrador Retriever. Ellie was adopted a couple of years ago from a rescue organisation. When she was rescued she had itchy skin and ear infections.

After settling her itch and treating her ear infections Gill did a strict 8-week elimination diet trial and found that Ellie was allergic to beef, chicken and dairy!

Ellie is also allergic to several grass and tree pollens so although she is much better, changing her diet has not completely eliminated all her symptoms. During the summer months Ellie’s itch is controlled with a monthly injection.
