Veterinary Dermatology Consultations
Initial Dermatology Consultations (1 hour)
We set aside a whole hour so that we can get to know you and your pet. Prior to your first visit we will ask that you complete and return a questionaire so that we can better understand your needs and concerns. We will also ask permission to contact your regular vet so we can obtain and review any previous veterinary history and laboratory test results prior to your visit. It is a good idea to also take a photo of or write down the names of any medicated shampoos, sprays supplements etc that you have so we know what you have available to use at home.
What to Expect at Your First Consultation
The primary goal of your first visit is to reach a diagnosis or establish a clear diagnostic plan, and to discuss the therapeutic options that will work best for you and your pet.
Dermatological conditions are often complex, with multiple overlapping issues. For example, your pet may have both an infection and underlying allergic inflammation occurring simultaneously. In these cases, we'll need to address the immediate concerns first, then work together through follow-up appointments to identify and manage the primary underlying condition.
Every consultation is thorough and individualized. I'll take time to understand your pet's complete history, perform a comprehensive dermatological examination, and may conduct diagnostic tests such as skin scrapes, cytology, or other procedures as needed. We'll discuss my findings with you in detail, explain the reasoning behind any recommended treatments, and create a manageable plan tailored to your pet's specific needs and your circumstances.
My approach is collaborative—I want you to feel informed and confident about each step of your pet's care, and I'm here to answer all your questions along the way.
It may be necessary for us to schedule a couple of follow up appointments to monitor response to therapy however, if you have travelled a long way, or if you prefer, a report can be sent to your local vet and we can support them with your pet’s aftercare.
Allergy Management Plans
For allergic pets flare-ups of skin/ear inflammation or infection can make your pet miserable and can happen when you least expect it.
It can be confusing to know what product to use when, even if you have a cupboard of options! We can design a plan tailored for you and your pet so you know what you can use when to support your pet’s skin barrier, settle itch and inflammation and treat or prevent skin infections.
