Murphy’s Sweet Potato Jerky
Murphy is an adorable 4-year old Spoodle who has itchy skin and ears. Dr Gill recommended a restricted diet as part of investigations into his allergy triggers.
Murphy’s mum Anne-Marie has kindly shared her recipe for her Air Fryer Sweet Potato Jerky which Murphy loves and which can be given as a low fat tasty treat for dogs with food allergies and for those undergoing an elimination diet trial.

The Recipe
Ingredient: 1 large or 2 medium sweet potato.
Equipment: Air fryer or oven, sharp knife, cutting board
1. Slice Sweet Potato
Wash and peel the sweet potato.
Cut in half lengthways or crossways.
Slice into strips approximately 7mm thick.
Longer cuts make great jerky-style chews
2. Air Fryer:
Arrange sweet potato in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Don't overlap — air circulation is key!
Cook at 110°C for 1.5 - 2 hours.
Aim for dry but slightly chewy — not brittle.
Alternative Oven method:
(If you don’t have an air fryer)
Arrange sweet potato on an oven tray lined with baking paper.
Bake at 120°C for 2-3 hours, flipping halfway
3. Allow to cool and let your dog enyoy!
Store sweet potato treats in an airtight container. Put them in the fridge to keep for up to 3 weeks
